Where is Bosschenhoofd?
Bosschenhoofd lies in the west of the province Noord-Brabant in the Netherlands, next to highway A58 and the railroad Roosendaal-Breda.
The history of Bosschenhoofd
In the sixteenth century AD the cutting peat south of the village Hoeven ended. Many farmers stayed though, which led to the foundation of several settlements. The inhabitants lived of the prospects of their little farms and sidelines as the making of brooms. These settlements were also called moor-hamlets.
Between 1840 and 1860 the area was opened and the waste moors were reclaimed. Because of this Bosschenhoofd grew into a little community. But the first community-services were not build until 1882. In that year the municipality of Hoeven founded a primary school in Bosschenhoofd. Four years later a church was build.
Between 1890 and 1920 the reclamation company Maple Farm re-created de moors in fertile pasture- and arable land. This company provided labor to many, which turned Bosschenhoofd into a vivid community.

Bosschenhoofd is nowadays the center of a small, but exciting recreation area.
Near the highway lies the main attraction of the village, the airstrip. Here is the possibility to fly with a Cessna over the south of the Netherlands. In the summer there is a large air-show.
In the center of the village lies Hotel de Reiskoffer, behind this hotel lies a squash and tennis-center with both indoor and outdoor fields.

Near Bosschenhoofd
Bosschenhoofd lies in the west of Brabant, which is the center of the Rijn-Schelde Delta. In this delta lie the harbors of Rotterdam and Antwerp, both half an hours diving from Bosschenhoofd. In the vicinity are the medieval cities of Breda and Bergen op Zoom. One of the most interesting aspects of the area is that it lies on the boundary of sand and clay. The north of West-Brabant is clay, the south is sand. At this boundary are typical differences in heights. The south contains as well some remaining moors.
